Stress Less in Tennant Creek is back for a second year in this outback town promoting the importance of wellness at a community event that has embraced the community.
This year Stress Less in Tennant Creek is on at Tennant Creek High School and organisers aim to ensure all school children get the chance to participate in a dedicated program about Mindfulness, Looking After Yourself and Looking After Each Other.
Special guest speakers are former AFL NT legend Daniel Motlop and current AFL Thunder player Ebony Miller. They will talk about how they have looked after their own mental health on their journey to success.
Stress Less in Tennant Creek strives to challenge the perceptions about mental illness and help everyone see mental health in a more positive light. This will pave the way for more people to seek the help and get the support they deserve.
There are a record number organisations and agencies attending stalls and providing fun activities. This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and unite in creating a mentally healthy Tennant Creek community.
Most importantly, everyone attending will be able to interact with local Tennant Creek organisations that support mental wellbeing. It’s a great chance to take home information that will be useful to you and your family.
Mental Health Central Australia Health Service has a dedicated Carer Consultant to provide information to Carers, who are the vital link in supporting a family member or friend with a mental illness. If you care for someone with a mental health issue, you will be able to collect a care package on the day.
The Stress Less in Tennant Creek community event focuses on:
Early intervention – 200 students from the Tennant Creek schools will be attending, having fun and learning about how they can ask for help for themselves or a mate who may be unwell.
Information Sharing – participating organisations and agencies will be showcasing how their organisation can assist in supporting mental wellbeing.
Carers – identifying those who are caring for a person dealing with mental unwellness and mental health issues, with relevant information for Carers as well as material for loved ones who may be transferred to the Alice Springs Mental Health Unit for treatment.
Stress Less in Tennant Creek will be held on Tuesday 13 August from 9am to 2.30pm. Expect to be entertained by NT Dance Crew, have a sausage sizzle or some kangaroo stew and wash it down with a tea, coffee or water. Take time to relax and watch the school students participate in a Paint Smash, gather information and merchandise from the local organisations to assist you and your family or friends in your journey to mental wellness.
