There are over 100 activities and events being held across the Territory in Seniors Month to encourage older people to have a healthy lifestyle, get involved in new activities and connect to the community.
Territory Families Chief Executive Officer Mr Ken Davies said senior Territorians are valued members of our community.
“Seniors are integral part of our social fabric.
“They have a wealth of knowledge and experience for us to learn from and we need to ensure that we continue to recognise their importance in our community,” he said.
“Seniors Month supports community based organisations to stage events across the Territory during August that celebrate our seniors and acknowledge the many valuable contributions they make and continue to make to the Territory.
“These events are held across both urban and regional centres so that the importance of seniors can be celebrated Territory wide.”
The Council of The Aging (COTA NT) has produced this year’s Senior’s Month calendar on behalf of Territory Families providing a guide for seniors on the activities and events being offered.
Territory Families funds 55 activities for Seniors Month through grants of up to $2000 each year for community groups and organisations to run the events which are also promoted through the calendar.
