World Class BMX for the Northern Territory

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

World class racing will come to the Top End this weekend when BMX Australia’s 2019 BAD BOY National Series hits the Satellite City BMX track.

The event held tomorrow will be stage four of seven in the national series that began in Sydney in February and concludes in October.

With world rankings points on the line, many of Australia’s top elite riders and some of New Zealand’s best are expected to make the trip to the Top End in a bid to strengthen their place in the global standings as preparations continue towards Olympic selection in 2020.

The series includes three separate competitions – one for challenge (age) classes, another for superclass and the final series for elite and junior elite events, where riders will be able to earn individual ‘world rankings’ points which help qualify riders for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Quotes from Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senior Director, Dr Ian Ford

“BMX is one of Australia’s most popular sports, enjoyed by people of all ages, status and social backgrounds.

“Last year fans at Satellite City BMX were treated to some spectacular riding during stage three of the 2018 BMX National Series.

“We are thrilled to again welcome this exciting event to the Top End and to deliver an elite level of BMX for Territorians to enjoy.

“It is estimated there will be more than 350 entries for the event, alongside hundreds more family and supporters preparing to make the trip to Darwin.”
