Heritage Grants restoring the past for the future

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Northern Territory Government is assisting community groups and private property owners with grants of up to $20,000 to preserve their slice of local history.

The NT Heritage Grants program provides funding for conservation work to buildings and other structures, Aboriginal archaeological sites, places of social significance and places of natural significance including flora, fauna and geological sites.

This annual grants program ensures key historic places across the Territory are maintained and preserved so all Territorians can celebrate our rich history.

Quotes by Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture, Director of Heritage Branch, Michael Wells

“The Territory Government is investing in these historically valuable places to ensure they are protected for future generations.

“Last year this program supported repairs on much loved heritage buildings such as the Roadmaster’s House in Darwin and the John Flynn Memorial Church in Alice Springs. Funding was also provided to help document and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage sites in Arnhem Land.

“These places are incredible examples of the Territory’s history and how far we’ve come.”
