Celebrating the role of Botanic Gardens

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Join in the free fun and festivities at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens this Sunday to celebrate Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand Open Day.

The annual event is a celebration and recognition of the important role botanic gardens play in our lives and communities.

George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Director, Bryan Harty said the day is held in conjunction with over 100 botanic gardens from around Australia and New Zealand.

“Botanic gardens are at the forefront of plant conservation and encourage and inspire gardening across the community,” Mr Harty said.

“There will be something for everyone including plant stalls, plant displays, guided walks, animal encounters, Segway rides, musical entertainment, food and drinks stalls and a kids obstacle course.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to chat with experts about your own garden, and gain some design inspiration during the guided walks.

“With such perfect Dry Season weather at the moment, there is no better time to get out and explore the beautiful Botanic Gardens. There’ll be plenty of plants, food and drink to purchase.”

The Open Day will run from 9am-1pm on Sunday 26 May. The Botanic Gardens car park will be closed, parking is available on Gardens Road and Mindil Beach.
