National Families Week starts today and celebrates the critical role families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing Territory children as they grow up.
National Families Week is on from 15-21 May 2019, with this year’s theme focused on ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’.
Territory Families Chief Executive Ken Davies said that National Families Week is an important annual event that acts as reminder of how we can all make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
“Families are the central building blocks of our communities across the Northern Territory,’’ he said.
“Families come in many different forms and it’s important to recognise the variety of families, their strengths and challenges and the importance of seeking help when it’s needed.
“Territory Families provides a range of child and family centred services to improve the wellbeing of families through offering advice and support, early intervention and specialist services that build the capacity of families to safely care for and protect their children.
“I encourage all Territorians to take the time this National Families Week to connect with family and friends in your community and make the most of family life.”
The FACES Family Support Line NT provides information and referrals to support services for children, parents, families, community members and professionals within the Northern Territory.
The support line is staffed by a team of specialists and connects parents and families to local services that can help with parenting, family and home support, budgeting and managing money, housing and health care and accessing other government or community services.
The FACES Family Support Line NT is a free service that is available by calling 1800 999 900 between 8am-8pm Monday to Friday.
