Plenty to do in our Parks and Reserves this Easter

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Escape the holiday boredom and discover what nature has to offer at our Parks and Reserves over the Easter long weekend.

The majority of Parks across the Top End region are open including Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls, Umbrawarra Gorge and Tjuwaliyn Hot Springs. Upper Cascades is open for walking and swimming and while Wangi Falls is still closed for swimming, the campground and café are open.

The Katherine region has plenty of options for swimming, camping and hiking at Mataranka Thermal Pools, Leliyn and Nitmiluk. Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park has opened for the 2019 season, with guided cave tours available.

All campgrounds in Central Australia are open, with cool nights forecast over the long weekend making it the perfect time to get out and about and sleep under the stars. Burnt areas of the Larapinta Trail are now flourishing and the full trail is now open.

In the Barkly, Tropical Cyclone Trevor delivered an impressive soaking bringing the Iytwelepenty / Davenport Ranges National Park back to life making it the perfect place to enjoy an Easter swim.

Unpredictable weather at this time of year can mean both opens and closures at short notice. Check the website before heading out to avoid disappointment: https://nt.gov.au/leisure/parks-reserves

Quotes from Department of Tourism Sport and Culture, Acting Director North Australia Parks, Peter Ross.

“The Easter long weekend provides a fantastic opportunity for Territorians to get out camping and make the most of our incredible Parks and Reserves, and we encourage everyone to put safety first.

“Our rangers work hard to ensure as much as possible is open for you to enjoy, however if it is closed, it’s for a reason such as high water levels impacting the ability to conduct crocodile management surveys, or currents make it too dangerous to swim. Please respect any closures.

“Crocodiles live in waterways across the Top End and it is important to Be Crocwise at all times and ensure you camp at least 50 metres from the water’s edge.”
