Jumping Roo to Welcome You at Alice Springs Airport

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

A new Jumping Roo display is welcoming passengers to Alice Springs Airport, promoting tourism experiences and products in the region.

Similar to the Jumping Croc display at Darwin International Airport, the Jumping Roo encourages visitors to have their photo taken mid-air while jumping like a kangaroo.

The image is then emailed to the visitor, who is encouraged to use the adjacent Tourism Touchscreen.

The Tourism Touchscreen sends users to Tourism Central Australia’s website, www.discovercentralaustralia.com, which provides region-specific information, product listings and a ‘book now’ function.

The Jumping Croc display in Darwin has proven a huge hit with visitors and takes a photo every three-and-a-half minutes. Along with their photograph, users also get emailed information relevant to their stay.

The Jumping Roo has been installed for a trial period of 12 months. At the end of that time the location for the display will be re-assessed.

Quotes from Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture Deputy CEO Andrew Hopper

“Thousands of visitors have had their picture taken with the Jumping Croc at Darwin International Airport, and we hope the Jumping Roo will prove as much of a hit at Alice Springs Airport.

“Displays such as this are especially popular with children, and while they have fun having their photo taken, the parents often start browsing through the Tourism Touchscreen.

“This is an important source of information for visitors, and connects them instantly to experiences and products that might be of interest during their stay.”
