Supporting NGOs to attend National Housing Conference close to home

Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development

The Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development (DLGHCD) has offered a one-off grant to eligible organisations to attend the 2019 National Housing Conference. This year, for the first time the conference is being held in Darwin, hosted by the Northern Territory Government and convened by Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI).

Through this grant, up to 56 key stakeholders who provide housing and homelessness services in the Territory will be able to attend the conference.

This grant is being facilitated through NT Shelter – a peak body for affordable housing and homelessness in the Northern Territory.

NT Shelter CEO Peter McMillan said the conference is a great opportunity for non-government organisations to network with their peers from across Australia and beyond.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for representatives across the NGO sector to see some high-profile speakers close to home,” Mr McMillan said.

This is the largest cross-sectoral event in Australasia for the social and affordable housing sectors, with topics ranging from homelessness, through to social and affordable housing, the housing market and Aboriginal housing.

The National Housing Conference is being held on 27-30 August at the Darwin Convention Centre, under the theme “Housing Future Communities”.

Speakers include Walkley award winning journalist, author and professor of global studies at Griffith University Professor Stan Grant, who will speak about Indigenous housing and the broader political and social challenges facing the housing sector.

The National Housing Conference is open to the public. More information, including the program is available at www.nhc.edu.au. You can also register to attend via the website.
