Territory
Families has provided $40,000 to 39 organisations to host a range of events to
celebrate International Women’s Day across the Territory today.
This year’s
theme is Balance for Better and
highlights the importance of striving for a gender-balanced Executive world and
working together to achieve gender equality.
Territory Families Chief Ken Davies said International Women’s Day provided the opportunity to acknowledge the important women in our lives.
“The Northern Territory has much to be proud of, with women leading the way and achieving great things across the social, economic, cultural and political aspects of our community,’’ he said.
“While International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women, it is also important to reflect on what still needs to be done to achieve equality for women everywhere.
“It takes a collaborative effort from all of us to create a world where women and girls have equal rights and opportunities.’’
A range of events are being held to celebrate International Women’s Day including:
A community march in Galiwin'ku to stand strong against domestic violence
The No Woman Left Behind Conference in Darwin
Women in Litchfield Art Exhibition
SPUN: Backbone – A Territory Story telling event sponsored by the Office of Gender Equity and Diversity
International Women’s Day Walk and Celebration in Darwin on Saturday 9 March, gather at 8:30am at the Darwin Civic Centre
There will also be many morning teas, luncheons, dinners, workshops, walks and art exhibitions to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Territorian women.
