McMinn Street has officially re-opened to traffic on Saturday 9 March, becoming the first intersection forming part of Garramilla Boulevard to be open to Territorians.
The McMinn Street / Garramilla Boulevard intersection is open to one lane in each direction, and will eventually connect traffic through to Dinah Beach Road.
The opening of the McMinn Street intersection is an exciting milestone in Darwin’s Garramilla Boulevard project.
Garramilla Boulevard is a landmark project that will provide an entry statement leading into Darwin’s CBD, as well as unlock the potential of the city’s eastern end.
Construction of Garramilla Boulevard is progressing well, and the opening of the McMinn Street intersection confirms the project is on-track.
When completed, Garramilla Boulevard will connect Tiger Brennan Drive to Cavenagh Street, and will assist with distributing traffic throughout the CBD, while also providing an important third entry point to the city while supporting the development of Darwin’s city centre.
As McMinn Street opens to traffic, works are set to begin on the Tiger Brennan Drive duplication between Dinah Beach Road and McMinn Street.
Nightworks will commence Monday 11 March 2019 and Tiger Brennan Drive will be closed between Dinah Beach Road and McMinn Street between the hours of 7pm and 6am. A detour will be in place via Frances Bay along Dinah Beach Road to provide continued access to the CBD.
A 40km/h speed restriction will be in place whilst works are carried out, and motorists should allow additional travel time.
