The International Veterans’ Art Exhibition, a travelling exhibition developed by the Australian National Veterans’ Arts Museum, officially opened today in Darwin.
The exhibition will be on display at the Live Darwin Hub from 19 February to 29 April 2019 as part of Territory Tribute, a series of new and existing events that are bookended by the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration Ceremony on 19 February and Anzac Day on 25 April 2019.
A total of 18 artworks, completed by veterans from participating nations of the 2018 Sydney Invictus Games, are included in the free exhibition.
The Territory’s capital will be the first city outside of Sydney to host the inaugural tour of the exhibition, which is themed Make Your Mark.
The theme is linked to the 2018 Sydney Invictus Games’ theme Making Your Mark Down Under, inspiring veterans to tell their story through art.
Showcasing veterans’ art from around the world, the exhibition gives locals and visitors the chance to see works that give an insight into veterans’ military service and post military experiences.
The exhibition was formally opened this morning, with members of the public invited to view the exhibition in the Live Darwin Hub from 9am to 3pm Monday – Friday before the exhibition closes on 29 April 2019.
