The Chief Minister’s Northern Territory History Book Award is now open for submissions. 

The awards celebrate the most significant historical book about the NT that was published in 2018, and the winning author will receive a $1,000 prize.  

The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s Senior Director NT Library and Archives, Patrick Gregory, said the Chief Minister’s Northern Territory History Book Award was an important annual event to recognise and celebrate the work of the historians and story tellers who document and narrate the Territory’s rich history.

“Last year a record 19 entries were received, with topics ranging from biographies of women on the frontier, newspapermen and the Territory’s first administrator through to areas such as Aboriginal art in Central Australia,” Mr Gregory said. 

“I look forward to reading the histories that will be uncovered and shared in the 2019 Chief Minister’s History Book Award.”

Entries are open through to midnight Monday 18 March 2019. 

Criteria to apply for the award; 

• Books must be a work on NT history, written in English, offered for general sale, and published between 1 January and 31 December 2018.

• Nominated and overseen by the Northern Territory Library, the judging panel is made up of three people who have a knowledge and understanding of NT history and experience in research, editing and writing.

• The shortlist is announced each year in June with the winner announced in early July.
