Arts grants available to support a creative Territory

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture is supporting Northern Territory artists, arts workers and arts organisations, to deliver projects and initiatives through grants funding that benefit the Territory community.

Project Round 2 grants and the Strategic Arts Program open today providing up to a total of  $500 000 in funding to support a creative Territory.

Arts NT Director, Angela Hill, said “The Project Round is a long established program that offers fantastic support for artists to develop and showcase their work.

“The Strategic Arts Program now in its third year, supports outstanding proposals that support employment opportunities for artists and arts workers and the development of a sustainable arts sector.”

In 2018, Incite Arts received funding from the Strategic Arts Program to host the national Arts Access Australia forum Meeting Place in Alice Springs. The signature event brought together artists, arts workers and leaders from the arts and disability sector across Australia, building capacity and developing inclusive and accessible arts engagement in the Northern Territory.

The Strategic Arts Program funding is available for artists, arts workers and arts organisations seeking support in the areas of:

·        Independent Creative Professionals – up to $25,000

·        Access for Artists with Disabilities– up to $25,000

·        Arts Industry Development– up to $100,000

The Project Round grants offer artists, arts workers and community organisations support to create new works, showcase their works, and develop and share new arts-related skills.

Categories include:

·         Arts Development – funding up to $20,000 that supports the research, development or creation of new work, arts projects or community cultural development projects.

·         Presentation and Promotion – funding up to $20,000 that supports projects that present, exhibit, distribute or promote and profile NT arts practice locally, nationally or internationally.

·         Skills Development – funding up to $20,000 for projects that foster skills, knowledge and experience of the participants, and build community capacity.

·         Emerging Artists – funding up to $15,000 for emerging artists for arts development, presentation, promotion and skills development.

The last Project Round supported a total of 12 arts projects including a wide variety of art forms such as photography, music video, book illustration, dance, theatre, opera, classical music performance and printmaking workshops.

Alice Springs songwriter Dave Crowe who received Project Round funding in 2018 to support the recording and production of his first album Resin Moon said he was grateful for the support of Arts NT funding to create the album.

“One of the major benefits of embarking on a ten track album recording and production project was the experience gained in creating a larger body of work, which has allowed me to grow as an artist,” Dave said.

Project Round 2 applications close Monday 11 March 2019 and the Strategic Arts Program applications close 1 April 2019.
