Aboriginal Territorians who are interested in studying education are being reminded to apply now for the 2019 Teaching – Growing Our Future Scholarships, with applications closing 1 February 2019.
The Department of Education Chief Executive Vicki Baylis said the scholarship aims to support and encourage Aboriginal Territorians to study education, allowing them to gain a qualification to teach in our schools.
“Aboriginal educators are leaders in the classroom and within the school community. With more than 15,000 Aboriginal students across the Territory, it is extremely important that we increase the number of Aboriginal educators in our schools,” Ms Baylis said.
“The Department of Education is committed to building and retaining a strong Aboriginal educator workforce in the Northern Territory and this scholarship will help to support aspiring teachers to pursue a career in education.
“Being a teacher is an extremely rewarding career and I strongly encourage Aboriginal Territorians who want make a difference to the lives of our students to apply now for one of the Teaching – Growing Our Future Scholarships.”
The successful applicants will receive up to $15,000 per year to complete an undergraduate (Bachelor of Education) or postgraduate (Master of Teaching) at Charles Darwin University in 2019.
