Darwin Waterfront is set to sparkle this New Year’s Eve

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

Darwin’s free and most iconic end-of-year celebration is set to be bigger and better this New Year’s Eve with a vibrant line-up of free family entertainment on again from 4pm at Darwin Waterfront.

This year’s celebration will include a headline national act, tribute stage show, local artists, children’s entertainment, food stalls and two fireworks displays, all set amongst the endless Waterfront dining options.

Australian music sensation, Justice Crew, will explode onto the main stage to perform live. All six members of the energetic pop group will entertain with their well know repertoire of hit singles and chart topping favourites. Party goers can dance into the heart of the evening to number one platinum favourites like ‘Boom Boom’ and ‘Que Sera’ along with smash debut singles ‘Best Night’ and ‘Everybody’.

The evening will continue to dazzle when the Australian Ultimate Kylie Minogue Tribute act welcomes the New Year with an enchanting stage show performance. The effervescent entourage of five will keep the beat alive with best hits through to the 2019 midnight countdown.

The littlest spectators will be able to celebrate early, with three Despicable Me 3 80’s Dance Parties, roving glitter artists, balloon twisters and dance competitions throughout.

Hosted by Amy Hetherington, the evening will also include acoustic performances by known local artists Bridey Rose, Max Fredericks and Bobby Christian. DJ Emily Rose and DJ Sonix will be sure to keep the crowd in spirit along the way with all of their party vibes.

The skies will ignite twice in one night, with two spectacular fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.

Pack a picnic dinner, blanket and chairs and relax on the lawns to soak in the evening’s festivities. There’ll be food and drink stalls and restaurants are taking dinner reservations. Eskies are welcome, but no glass or alcohol is permitted.

Free parking will be available at the Kitchener Drive multi-storey car park and the Darwin Convention Centre’s basement parking from 3pm on 31 December 2018 to 1am on 1 January 2019. The free holiday parking incentive for on-street and off-street parking at the Waterfront will remain in place until Friday 18 January.  To avoid delays, park in the city and take the short stroll across the sky bridge and down the glass lift into the heart of the celebrations.

A free public bus service will operate from Darwin Waterfront to Darwin City Interchange from 9:30pm to 10:00pm on New Year’s Eve and 12:15am to 1:00am New Year’s Day.

Undercover marquees will be in place just in case there is any rain on the evening. Pack a poncho and your umbrella so you’re set for any weather —the show will certainly go on!

New Year’s Day festivities will continue at the Waterfront from 2pm to 6pm with a free live concert by Melanie Gray Duo who will perform Australian favourites with a modern twist.
