First Annual Report of the Buy Local Industry Advocate

Buy Local Industry Advocate

The first Annual Report of the NT Buy Local Industry Advocate, Mr Denys Stedman, was published today.

Under the terms of reference for the role, the Buy Local Industry Advocate is required to publish an Annual Report commenting on the effectiveness of the Buy Local Plan and the delivery of Value For Territory.

“This report is my independent assessment of the NT Government’s progress in delivering on its commitments contained in the Buy Local Plan,” Mr Stedman said.

“There are a number of recommendations and opportunities for improvement for government to consider to deliver better Buy Local and Value For Territory outcomes.”

“Through my review I was unable to conclude whether the Buy Local Plan has had a positive effect in increasing spending with Territory Enterprises.”

“I also found that the delivery of optimal Value For Territory outcomes through the procurement process has been inconsistent.”

“I have identified a number of issues which need attention by the NT Government to maximise and enable the effectiveness of the Buy Local Plan to be measured, and Value For Territory to be delivered into the future,” Mr Stedman said.

Mr Stedman commenced in the role in January this year. One of the roles of the Buy Local Industry Advocate is to act as an independent link between local business and the NT Government, and the publishing of his Annual Report is an important way of reporting his observations and recommendations in respect to government procurement.
