The NTIS Director Pathways and Performance, Karen Taylor, today congratulated the Peak Sporting Bodies on receiving the funding.

“I’m pleased to announce the successful recipients of the 2018-19 NTIS Officiating Development Program, which aims to improve the knowledge, skills and experience of accredited sport officials participating in the NT,” Ms Taylor said.

“Sport is a way of life in the Territory, and the program will strengthen the capability and capacity of sporting organisations to assess, coach and educate NT officials for the benefit of the entire Territory sporting community.

“It is a great way to increase the number of Territorians officiating and umpiring at the highest levels of sport.

“The funds will support the groups in a variety of ways. Football Federation NT will use the funds to support course facilitators from Brisbane to conduct Level 3 Assessor and Level 3 Instructor courses in Alice Springs along with supporting referees selected into their Referee Academy, who will attend interstate competitions and receive higher levels of coaching.

“NT Rugby Union will use the funds to support two referees attending a Level 2 accreditation course in Queensland and Table Tennis NT will prepare its officials for the Arafura Games by conducting the National Level accreditation.

“The NTIS offers a range of support programs for Peak Sporting Bodies including grant funding under the Officiating Development Program offered twice per year and the High Performance Officiating Program offered annually.”

Applications for round two of the NTIS Officiating Development Program will be open from 28 January 2019.
