Royal Darwin Hospital supports the national Nurse Strong Campaign

Department of Health

The Top End Health Service is supporting the Australian College of Nursing’s, Nurse Strong Campaign, aimed at improving the health and well-being of Australian nurses.

Launched in October this year, the campaign raises awareness and encourages nurses and midwives to take time each day to focus on their own health and well-being.

Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) staff are getting on board this week, by holding a group walking session around the hospital campus. The session will aim to inspire hospital staff to take 20 minutes out of their day to be active and take time away from their busy roles to refocus and reenergise.

General Manager Operations at Royal Darwin Hospital, Margaret Farrell said nurses play an integral role in the health service provision and it is important for them to take time for some self-care.

“The Nurse Strong campaign is a great launching pad to remind nurses and midwives of the importance of reflection and self-care,” she said.

“All of our staff are encouraged to take 20 minutes out of their day to focus on their health and well-being, whether that be going for a walk, a swim at the hospital pool, heading to the gym or some meditation time at lunch.

“We are supporting the campaign by hosting a walking group at the RDH campus today. We hope the walk will inspire others and remind staff just how easy it is to keep active.”

As part of the campaign, nurses can register to take part in the Nurse Strong program, run by personal trainer Lauren Hannaford of FHIT by Lauren Hannaford. The program encourages nurses to do a 15 minute workout each day, each workout is designed so that nurses can take part anywhere at any time of the day.
