From 30 November 2018 the Office of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption is responsible for receiving, identifying and investigating reports of corruption and misconduct by government/public bodies and public officers and those who receive government money including contractors and grant recipients.
For example, those who are in receipt of funds through procurement or grant activities, or delivery of a service on behalf of government.
The Office of the ICAC can investigate a wide range of improper conduct of persons / bodies previously outside the jurisdiction of Northern Territory ‘watchdog’ bodies. For example, MLA’s, courts, tribunals, local government councils and independent officers.
The ICAC also has significant powers to protect people who have assisted or may assist in detecting, preventing, investigating or otherwise responding to improper conduct.
Reports made to the Office of the ICAC are legally protected, can be made anonymously, and are confidential.
