Regional and remote art centres, art galleries, museums, libraries and keeping places can now apply for Round 3 of the Northern Territory Government’s Arts Trail Regional Stimulus Grants.
An important initiative supporting the Territory’s regions, this funding is focused on arts and cultural infrastructure development across the Northern Territory, prioritising outer regional and remote development and eligible not-for-profit organisations. Grants of up to $10,000 and up to $100,000 are available.
Many local organisations have benefitted from the previous funding rounds. In 2017, the Arts Trail Regional Stimulus Program supported 33 upgrades to regional and remote art and cultural centres across the Territory to enhance their facilities and attract more visitors. Recipients included:
· $91 820 to the Milingimbi Art and Culture Aboriginal Corporation for art centre upgrades,
· $100 000 for upgrades to the Hermannsburg Potters studio, to improve facilities for the artists to produce high quality ceramics in a safe and professional studio,
· $98 472 for Art Gallery upgrades at the Papunya Tjupi Art Centre in Yuendumu to improve the facilities to enhance tourist and visitor experiences, and
· $100 000 towards the Munupi Arts and Crafts Association for the construction of a new painting studio and art centre refurbishment.
Earlier this year, the Round 2 Arts Trail Regional Stimulus Program supported a further six upgrades including:
· $95 585 for upgrades to the outdoor men’s painting area at Iltja Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation in Alice Springs,
· $100 000 to Thamarrurr Development Corporation for restorative works on the Old Convent building in Wadeye to develop the site as a cultural keeping and learning place for artists and visitors.
Department of Tourism and Culture, Director of Arts NT, Angela Hill, said she was pleased to see the opening of Round 3 to support arts and cultural infrastructure projects in our regions.
“Round 3 grants are open from 29 November through to 21 January 2019, and successful projects can begin from April next year,” Ms Hill said.
“A new Round 4 has also been established, opening on 18 April 2019.
“The stimulus grants are an important component of building a Territory-wide Arts Trail which boosts local economies, grows our arts and cultural sector and supports jobs in regional areas.
“I encourage eligible regional and remote cultural organisations to apply.”
