The Territory Government is encouraging the collective of doers and thinkers to explore the Territory’s rich history through the NT History Grants Program.
Administered by the Northern Territory Archives Service, the NT History Grants Program aims to encourage and support original research into the NT’s past, while broadening important resources into specific areas for the benefit of the community.
A total of $60,000 in grant money is available with grants ranging up to $7,000 per application to assist in carrying out research projects.
Department of Tourism and Culture, Acting Director of Heritage, Dianne Bensley, said the NT History Grants Program is an important way to remember and immortalise the Territory’s rich and cultural history.
“The NT History Grants program aims to support Territorians who wish to explore our rich history of uninterrupted curiosity,” Ms Bensley said.
“The Territory is a land of ambition, and I’m pleased to launch the latest round of the NT History Grants so Territorians can discover how our community has always grown from tradition, and why the naysayers and idea killers never came this far.”
Individuals, societies and community organisations are encouraged to apply for the grants, with funding to be used for travel and accommodation, printing and publication, production of research guides based on select topics, stationery and consumables, incidental research fees as well as copying charges.
“Preference will be given to applications covering topics which have not been researched before, or if the topic has been researched, the applicant must propose a new approach.”
Previous history grant projects include historical research for radio programs, journal articles, published work, oral history interviewing, film or video production, as well as digital and website.
