Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The ovals are being mowed, the courts polished and drinks ordered as the final countdown to the Alice Springs Masters Games begins!

Department of Tourism and Culture, Executive Director of Community Participation, Sport and the Arts, Phillip Leslie, said the town was abuzz with excitement ahead of this iconic event.

“The town really comes to life with the games, and we’re excited to be in the final countdown with only 11 days until the fun begins,” Mr Leslie said.

“The games have run every two years since 1986 and it’s easy to see how the reputation of ‘The Friendly Games’ developed.

“The opening and closing ceremonies are a great opportunity for competitors and their support teams to mingle and let their hair down under the stars at Anzac Oval while enjoying a range of food and beverage options with light, mid and full strength alcohol available.

“This year, crowds will be wowed with an exciting all-star line-up of performers starting with Jon Stevens at the Opening Ceremony and wrapping up the games with Thirsty Merc at the Closing Ceremony.

“With 36 different sports held across seven days, including three brand new sports, an exciting program of entertainment and social events and spectacular Central Australia as the backdrop, this is shaping up to be another huge event.”

This year there is also a fresh-look medal, which is reflective of the fun nature of the games and the Territory.

The games will be held October 13-20, with the Opening Ceremony kicking off at 5pm on 13 October and the Closing Ceremony wrapping up celebrations on 20 October.
