A number of community service organisations have benefited from the Northern Territory Government $69 million stimulus program.
Anglicare NT manage a youth accommodation complex of four two-bedroom units, which assists young people experiencing homelessness learn skills to help them obtain a private rental.
Operations Manager for Youth Support and Development Anglicare NT Jemma Wood, says she is grateful for the support the Department of Housing and Community Development offered under the stimulus program.
One of the main outcomes Anglicare NT wanted from its stimulus works was an updated and re-concreted basketball court.
“The basketball court request was part of our strategy to provide spaces for young people to have fun, get active and be connected to one another,” Jemma said.
The Anglicare NT units were also repainted, and new kitchen benches were installed as part of the stimulus work.
“Anglicare NT is thrilled that the stimulus funding has helped create the type of environment that we believe will give young people the best chance at a bright future,” Jemma said.
TeamHEALTH also received a new basketball court as part of the $69 million stimulus program.
TeamHEALTH property coordinator Jacci Gray-Browne says the installation of the court has already seen participants venture out of their apartment, which allows for positive mental health.
“People have been using it and enjoying it – we’re going to start having competitions between some of our participants from other programs, to get everyone active and build friendships,” she said.
The TeamHEALTH complex is comprised of 12 two-bedroom units, all of which received a fresh coat of paint. The complex also received new roofing and cladding.
“Everyone wants a nice place to live, the stimulus has helped with that,” Ms Gray-Browne said.
The $69 million stimulus program is currently being finalised.
