The
Saturday evening Yeperenye Shopping Centre Street Parade saw over 500 hot rods, street cars and vintage
classics from all over Australia cruise a 14km loop through Alice Springs CBD
and the surrounds, flanked by the MacDonnell Ranges. The local Alice Springs community lined their
streets by the thousands to see the country’s most exceptional vehicles on
display.
“The Red CentreNATS is fast becoming one of Australia’s most popular motoring weekends and is another perfect example of Alice Springs being one of Australia’s best event destinations.” says Tim Watsford, General Manager for Northern Territory Major Events Company.
“A truly unique aspect of Red CentreNATS is that entrants are allowed a special temporary permit that allows their car to cruise the streets of Alice Springs in vehicles that may usually only participate in shows and competitions. This allows the event to take over the town and the social media interaction has been fantastic with over 50,000 people actively engaged across our social media accounts across the last month”
The Alice Springs community have strongly embraced the Red CentreNats every Father’s Day since its inception four years ago, with thousands of local families mixing with visitors from throughout Australia to celebrate all things wheels.
“The Red CentreNATS is Australia’s coolest motoring event – only in Alice Springs can I do this with my car” says Simon, who drove 2,500 kilometres from Melbourne to attend the event. “The other vehicles I get to see here and the people I meet are incredible and the chance to cruise Alice Springs and compete against other car lovers makes this my favourite weekend of the year.”
Andy Lopez from Summernats puts the Alice Springs weekend up against Australia’s best motoring events with positive comparisons; “The Red CentreNATS is the biggest car street parade in the country. We’re only allowed to do 300 cars at the Summernats in Canberra, but here in Alice we have over 500 amazing vehicles wowing the people of Alice.”
