The Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre presents Bell Shakespeare’s 2018 national touring production, Julius Caesar, directed by James Evans.

“We are excited to have Bell Shakespeare return to the Araluen Arts Centre with their newest production of Julius Caesar, featuring Kenneth Ransom, previously seen in the feature film Gods of Egypt,” Senior Director of the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

“Julius Caesar is an important Shakespearean play about democracy, ego and idealism that still resonates with modern audiences, brought to stage in a thrilling performance from Bell Shakespeare.”

Julius Caesar, both a historical and tragic play, follows the fallout on the assassination of Caesar, that leads to a life and death struggle for power in the Republic. Citizens mutiny, Mark Antony schemes, and the fate of Rome hangs in the balance.

Director James Evans explained “Julius Caesar is Shakespeare’s political thriller. It’s a masterpiece of intrigue and treachery.

“Shakespeare explores what happens when fear infects a society, and I think everyone can relate to that. It deals with issues that are urgently contemporary - audiences will recognise themselves and their society in the play.

“It’s also just a cracking great story, full of action and some of the most incredible language Shakespeare ever wrote. It will be a really exciting night in the theatre,” he said.

Bell Shakespeare Executive Director Gill Perkins said that the Company is passionate about sharing Shakespeare with as many people as possible around Australia.

“Our commitment to a truly national reach is stronger than ever. For more than 27 years we have presented the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries in the farthest parts of Australia; from Bunbury to Darwin to Launceston.”

The Julius Caesar cast includes Kenneth Ransom, Jemwel Danao, Ivan Donato, Maryanne Fonceca, Ghenoa Gela, Neveen Hanna, Emily Havea, Nick Simpson-Deeks, Russell Smith and Sara Zwangobani.

Bell Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Tuesday 18 September at 8:00pm.

Ticket prices are $59.00 for adults, $55.00 for concession and $52.00 for Araluen Arts Centre Members.
