Over the next two days, hundreds of Territorian’s are expected to converge on the Darwin Convention Centre for this year’s Skills, Employment and Careers Expo.
This free event is the largest training, jobs and careers roadshow in the Territory, and has already seen more than 2,000 attend across Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Katherine.
Executive Director of Workforce NT, Cathy White, says the expo has something for anyone looking to start, upskill, and advance or change jobs.
“Over 70 exhibitors from across the business, industry, government, education and training sectors will be on hand to talk about the current opportunities out there,” Cathy said.
“Attendees can have a go at hands-on skill activities and check out the Jobs Board to find out about current job vacancies.
“They can also listen to insights from industry experts on the career paths available, including higher education and VET options, as well as the future of work. Information sessions will be held throughout the expo.”
For the first time, a sensory friendly hour will take place from 9am to 10am on Saturday. During this time, participants and their families can enjoy a quieter, less crowded visit to the expo.
“This is an important initiative to reduce barriers for people with disabilities and sensory processing disorders, providing equal access to information on career and training options,” Cathy said.
Sensory hour will feature:
- Lower audio volume on exhibits
- Dimmed lighting
- No use of laser, strobe, smoke effects
- No announcements or roving MC’s
A quiet room will operate during the whole of the expo, featuring soft bean bags and cushions, sensory tools and fidget toys.
