The Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre will present Letters to Lindy, a brand-new work from award-winning playwright, Alana Valentine, this August as part of a national tour.

“We are excited to be presenting such a captivating story, written by one of the country’s leading playwrights, that is based on the real life story of one of 20th Century Australia’s most iconic figure, Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton,” Senior Director of the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

“Letters to Lindy is touching and authentic, and provides a deep insight into one of the most compelling legal and human dramas of our times.”

The story of Lindy Chamberlain captivated a nation. A mother accused of murdering her child, her claim – that the baby was taken by a dingo – denied and discredited by zealous police and a flawed legal system. The media circus, the rumours, the mob mentality, and a nation’s prejudices laid bare.

Based on actual letters received by Lindy Chamberlain from members of the public, Letters to Lindy paints a singular portrait of the heartbreak, wisdom and resilience of a grieving mother and her 30-year fight for justice.

Original cast member Jeanette Cronin, known for her roles in ABC TV’s Janet King and Rake, will again portray Lindy Chamberlain.

Merrigong Theatre Company artistic director and CEO Simon Hinton said “Merrigong is particularly proud of the work we have produced in Letters to Lindy, a part of our continued focus on producing and presenting new Australian work. The story of Lindy Chamberlain is an iconic and important one for all Australians, so we are thrilled to be able to tour it to such a wide audience across the country.”

Previous works by Alana Valentine include Head Full of Love, a story about the love of the Alice Springs Beanie Festival that played at the Araluen Arts Centre in 2015.”

Letters to Lindy will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Friday 24 August at 8:00pm.

Ticket prices are $49.00 for adults, $45.00 for concession and $42.00 for Araluen Arts Centre Members.
