Restoring Integrity, Reforming the Northern Territory Planning System.

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

The Northern Territory Government is committed to improving the planning system to ensure it remains open, transparent and accountable, whilst also ensuring that the system listens to Territorians and gives confidence that the right planning decisions are being made.

A consultation paper ‘Building Confidence through Better Planning for the Northern Territory’ was released in October 2017 and this was the first step in the process of undertaking a reform of the existing Northern Territory Planning System.

Through Stage One consultations the Northern Territory Government heard how Territorians interact with the planning system and where improvements are considered necessary.

In response to the feedback from this initial consultation Government has developed a strategy for delivering planning reform.

The Northern Territory Government is now doing a second stage of consultation seeking the views of the community and stakeholders regarding the proposals to improve the planning system.

The feedback received from industry and community stakeholders will inform how the Northern Territory Government progresses with legislative and regulatory reform.

Stakeholders who provided information through Stage One of the consultation will be invited to attend a number of small workshops. Sessions will be focused on the priority reform agenda and other interested community members are welcome to register to attend.

Submissions for Stage Two of the consultation process will be open from Thursday 26 July to Friday 7 September 2018.

A report will be provided on the outcomes of the consultation process and recommendations in late 2018, with resultant actions to be delivered in 2019.
