Home completed under $24 million town camp spend

Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development

Upgrade works have been completed at a home in the One Mile Dam community.

Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation has delivered this work, funded through the $24 million announced by the Northern Territory Government in May this year to address urgent works for housing and infrastructure in town camps.

Long-term One Mile Dam resident Mindy Timber recently moved into her newly refurbished home.

Mindy says she is happy to be in her new home, and it is now a safer environment for her family.

“I have space now which is good for me and (my family),” she said.

The works completed in Mindy’s home include a new kitchen and bathroom fitouts, repainting, window fittings and electrical work.

“Best changes to my house is the toilet and shower, and the kitchen is very nice, and the ceiling is higher, more air flow,” she said.

Yilli Rreung Works Manager John Adams, oversaw the refurbishments that took place at Mindy’s home.

“She loves it, it helps her a lot.

It’s a great outcome for not only Yilli Rreung and local employment, but servicing local businesses. The tenant (Mindy Timber) was over the moon, when we handed the keys over, so she’s happy” he said.

The $24 million town camp funding is currently occurring across the regions.
