The free walking tours throughout June visit the Local Knowledge sites in conversation with project artists Kelly Lee Hickey and Betty Sweetlove.
Drawing on interviews from 14 different individuals and community groups, the project collective has created a beautiful hand drawn map and walking tour that shares stories linked to different sites around the CBD.
Department of Tourism and Culture, Director of Arts NT, Ms Angela Hill said the Local Knowledge project offers visitors the opportunity to see the town through local eyes, and offers locals new stories about familiar places.
“The new Live Alice Mparntwe Local Knowledge walking tour is a great way to immerse yourself in the rich and exciting stories hidden in our city,” said Ms Hill.
“Local Knowledge is a people's map of Alice Springs. The map showcases the diversity of voices through place, with participants including the Senior Citizens Association, Central Australian Rugby League and the Apmere Angkentye-kenhe Arrernte language project."
The Local Knowledge Maps will be available throughout the CBD and online throughout June, with walking tours commencing on Saturday 9 June from 10am.
Two Saturday morning tours explore sites of arrival and departures, and community connection, while the final tour is a sunset walk of all project sites on Friday 29 June 2018.
