Calling all jumping joeys! It’s time for Junior Rangers!

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Grab your boots and pull on your hat, it’s time for Junior Rangers in Alice Springs!

The Junior Ranger program encourages young people to get-out-an-about discovering some of the beautiful Parks and Reserves in the NT.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Parks, Wildlife and Heritage, Community Engagement Officer, Jennifer Kreusser, said the Junior Ranger program is a great way for local children to learn about the environment they live in while having fun and making new friends.

“Being a Junior Ranger is children are able to discover their natural and cultural environment through fun, practical activities that build knowledge and skills, providing an insight not only into nature, but also the great work our rangers do,” Ms Kreusser said.

“Children and their families build their knowledge and skills over the 10 week program, giving them the confidence to go out and experience our amazing Parks and Reserves independently.

“Junior Rangers learn to feel comfortable in natural spaces and come away from the program with a richer experience of their world and how they can make a difference.

“The Junior Ranger program is delivered in Alice Springs during Term 3. As a Junior Ranger you might find yourself hiking along trails, sitting around a campfire with friends, or even simply staring up at the stars in the night-time sky!”

“Activities are hands-on, so expect to get dirty!”

The ever popular Parks, Wildlife and Heritage Junior Ranger program continues to be offered free to local children and provides them with the opportunity to contribute to our amazing Territory environment.

Junior Rangers are aged between nine and 12 years and must be able to commit to the whole ten week program which operates throughout all of Term 3 (July – September). Enrolments in the program are limited to 30 places, so make sure you contact us as soon as you can.

Registrations for the Alice Springs program opens 9am on Tuesday 5th June. Enrolment forms and information can be found on the Parks, Wildlife and Heritage website at: https://nt.gov.au/leisure/parks-reserves/become-a-junior-ranger
