Territory Families Release First Half Year Report

Territory Families

The Territory Families Strategic Plan 2017-2020: First Half Year Report 2017-18 has been completed.

“This report shows how we are progressing our efforts, as we work to ensure that we are delivering quality outcomes for Territory Families.

“I would like to thank all those staff members who were involved in this process of reporting against our strategic road map for the next three years.  Now more than ever, this report defines our focus and ensures that the work we are doing is quantifiable so that we can clearly see where we are making a difference,” said Chief Executive Officer, Ken Davies.

“I would also like to acknowledge and thank our stakeholders partners have worked with us to establish this plan and assist us to deliver our services better.

“The last six months has involved a lot of work and now is the time to appreciate the work done so far, but also to visualise the way forward as we keep children and their families at the centre of our decision making.”

The Report highlights Territory Families’ achievements, progress towards our six goals, and delivery status of the key actions for 2017‑18 over the first six months of the Strategic Plan’s lifecycle.

Of the 55 key actions contained in the Strategic Plan, 21 have already been completed (nine of which will require ongoing monitoring and maintenance); 30 are currently in the delivery stage; and four are in the planning stage.

Some of Territory Families’ key achievements over the past six months highlighted in the Report include:

Partnerships with Aboriginal controlled organisations on a range of reforms, including the Aboriginal Peak Organisations of the Northern Territory; the Secretariat for Aboriginal and Islander Child Care; Tangentyere Council; Danila Dilba; and the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress;

Implementation of the first phase of the Family Support Reform, including partnering with Northern Territory Council of Social Service to launch a new family support online service directory and the establishing of a new referral centre;

Embedding of the Youth Outreach and Re-Engagement Teams, including their expansion into youth community corrections work, and their engagement with young people transitioning from youth detention to the community as part of a through-care service model;

Delivery of Safe, Respected and Free: the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework, which articulates Government’s vision for creating safe homes, communities, workplaces and schools;

Introduction of youth bail support services for the first time in the Northern Territory via a three-year contract awarded to Saltbush Enterprises; and

Completion of the review of the Northern Territory Pensioner and Carer Concession Scheme, with the new Northern Territory Concession Scheme and Seniors Recognition Scheme to commence from 1 July 2018.

The Strategic Plan currently includes key actions that Territory Families will deliver in 2017‑18. These will be reviewed and updated key actions will be identified for 2018‑19.
