Australian children’s classic comes to life in interactive stage show

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre is pleased to present Creature, a stunning digital stage re-imagining of the classic Australian story, Dot and the Kangaroo.

“We are excited to be presenting Creature and to bring Indigenous flora and fauna to life on stage for children and families aged 4 and over,” Senior Director of the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

“This new production by Stalker Theatre combines breathtaking aerial acrobatics, live music and spectacular 3D projections to take you on a journey across the Australian landscape. Its use of cutting-edge technology which make children and their grownups gasp in delight."

When five-year-old Dot gets lost in the bush, she is rescued by a kangaroo who gives her magic ‘berries of understanding’ allowing her to follow the languages of all the animals around her.

With this new gift, Dot and Kangaroo set out on an action-packed adventure to return her home – an adventure that changes the way she sees the Australian bush and her place within it.

“The show is adapted by leading Australian playwright John Romeril from the original children’s book by Ethel C Pedley to provide a brand new stage experience that combines interactive technology, dance and acrobatics,” Dr Crees said.

“Audiences will meet some wonderful creatures and explore their quirky characteristics amidst the serenity of their natural habitats.

Creature is an immersive performance that will encourage children of all ages to use their imaginations and to connect with the beauty of the Australian bush.”
