Our Town’s bush celebrities debut in Qantas Entertainment Original

A selection of Central Australia’s most beloved ‘bush characters’ are set to help drive tourism to the region and increase awareness about the diversity of tourism product thanks to the launch of a new Qantas Entertainment Original pilot series; Our Town.

Produced in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Culture, Qantas and Untitled Film Works, the inflight series introduces travellers across the Qantas network to three incredible Northern Territorians, telling personal and engaging stories about their life living and working in the Red Centre.

Featuring Dan Falzon of Alice Springs’ Earth Sanctuary Nature Centre, Chris Hill of Uluru Camel Tours, and Christine Braeden Karrke of Kings Canyon’s Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Tours, each character’s story promotes a tourism experience and showcases the destination. 

“The Our Town mini-series is an entertaining and prominent way to elevate the profile of the Red Centre, its characters and their incredible tourism products. The pilot episode is part of our continued commitment to grow visitation to the Territory,” Department of Tourism and Culture Acting CEO Andrew Hopper said.

“The series is part of the Department of Tourism and Culture’s marketing partnership with Qantas that will also see NT destinations featured on the Qantas flight view, allowing passengers to explore the Territory’s landscapes below as they fly above.”

Complimentary marketing activities include advertising placements within the Qantas inflight Wi-Fi hub with display advertising and native content. Information will also be available inside the hub highlighting events and festivals occurring in the Territory, which are aimed at driving event attendance and promoting regional dispersal.

Mr Hopper said that Qantas remained a key partner in creating access and driving visitation to the Red Centre and the latest collaboration proved the airline’s confidence in the region’s tourism sector.

“This marketing activity will harness the power of Qantas’ Entertainment audience across their domestic network. Qantas operate over 4,500 flights per week and up-lifts 60,000 passengers per day, presenting a significant opportunity to engage with our target audience,” he added.

Later this month, Qantas and Tourism NT will also partner to bring Channel Ten’s Everyday Gourmet to film the NT’s unique food experiences in Katherine, Kakadu, Darwin and Alice Springs. These tourism specials will screen on TVs around the country from July this year and will feature a trade and wholesale component to allow viewers to book trips to the NT.
