Territory Families congratulates Mrs Jennie Ryan, who was today announced as the Barnardos Mother of the Year NT 2018 and Ms Sandra Peirce who was named runner up.

Barnardos Mother of the Year showcases the work of everyday mums and the positive difference that they make in the lives of children.

“On behalf of Territory Families, I would like congratulate and thank Jennie and Sandra, for the support and love that they bring as mothers, not only their own children, but also to children within their communities who need a motherly figure to turn too” said Territory Families CEO, Ken Davies.

Mrs Ryan was nominated by long-term friend Jill Burgess, in her nomination Jill described Mrs Ryan’s home as a place of peace and non-judgment, where anyone who needed a chat was welcome at any time.

Jennie is a mother to four of her own children and has acted as a foster carer and support person to many children over the years. She was touched at receiving the nomination saying “I just thought I was doing what everyone else does”.

Sandra Peirce, a mother of two was nominated by her husband Scott who said “She is the most selfless person I know, caring beyond belief and always trying to give opportunities to those who are not so fortunate in our community".

The judging panel looked for inspirational stories of strength and dedication to family, those who have protected and kept families safe, shown unconditional love no matter the circumstances, given selflessly with the devotion of time and energy to their children.

Jennie will now progress to the Barnardos Mother of the Year, National Awards that will be held in Sydney in early May. We wish her the best of luck.
