A pump in the aquarium at the Territory Wildlife
Park suffered a malfunction overnight resulting in the death of several animals
including whip rays, barramundi and a turtle.
The pump is responsible for maintaining and balancing the PH levels of the water.
A formal incident investigation has begun and a further independent review of critical systems at the Territory Wildlife Park will be completed by a qualified technician once the initial incident response is completed.
The contract technician for the aquarium is on-site to investigate problems with the pump, and it will not be recommissioned until the fault is defined and remedied.
The welfare of animals at the Territory Wildlife Park is paramount and the aquarium will remain closed until the issue has been resolved.
