Territory Families congratulates Mr Roger
Wilyuka the overall winner of the 2018 Northern Territory Young Achiever of the
Year Award.
“These Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise, acknowledge and reward young people throughout the Territory who are excelling in a range of fields”, said Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Davies.
“On behalf of Territory Families, I congratulate Roger for his commitment and dedication to serving his community and making a difference in the lives of the young people he works with.”
Mr Wilyuka, 23 of Alice Springs, also won his category of Northern Territory Government Young Aboriginal Educator. He is a well-respected Assistant Teacher at Titjikala School, heading up the Fathers and Son’s Reading Program and School Holiday Activities and Sports, as well as many other initiatives.
“The Awards showcase the wide-ranging talents of young Territorians and all the nominees deserve to be celebrated,” said Mr Davies.
The Awards attracted 240 nominations this year with the highest of 39 nominations received in the Minister for Territory Families Excellence in Youth Leadership Award category.
“It’s heartening to see so many young
Territorians working in the youth leadership field. They are leading the way to support their
peers and make a difference in matters directly affecting young people,” said
Mr Davies.
Four
of the 12 categories are sponsored by the Northern Territory Government.
The winners of the various
categories were:

- People’s Choice Award – Lisa Tiernan
- The Coffee Club Australia Fashion Award – Maggie McGowan
- Genesee & Wyoming Australia Indigenous Achievement Award – Daryl Lacey
- Glencore Regional and Rural Initiative Award – Christopher Wilson
- Northern Territory Government Small Business Achievement Award – Alex Florance – Florance Electrical
- ConocoPhillips Environment Award – Frazer Oliver
- Northern Territory Government Young Carers Award – Eloy Mason
- PTTEP Australasia Health and Wellbeing Award – Michelle Kula
- ZipPrint Darwin NT Sport Award – Thomas Maxwell
- Somerville Community Services Community Service Award – Phoebe Hooper
Mr Wilyuka received a
trophy and $4,000 courtesy of Territory Insurance Office (TIO). In addition,
all winners received $2,000 courtesy of TIO.
The Northern Territory Young Achiever Awards is an annual event that recognises and rewards the achievements and positive contributions of young people aged up to 29 years from across the Northern Territory.
The Awards coincided with the commencement of NT Youth Week and are coordinated by Awards Australia.
