Construction commenced on A Territory Story Exhibition at NT Library

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Works have commenced on the building and installation of the new Northern Territory Library permanent exhibition, A Territory Story, with the contract awarded to local company C & R Constructions Pty Ltd.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Senior Director Northern Territory Library and Archives, Patrick Gregory said the awarding of the tender follows extensive planning, community consultation and design research to provide an exhibition that includes a survey of the people, places and events that have shaped the Territory.

A Territory Story will showcase the role of the Northern Territory Library in collecting, preserving and activating the documentary heritage of the Northern Territory,” Mr Gregory said.

“It will complement existing cultural and historical offerings in Darwin, such as the Cyclone Tracy exhibit at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and the Bombing of Darwin story at the Defence of Darwin Experience.”

This exhibit is part of the Northern Territory Government’s efforts to revitalise the Darwin CBD and is set to be an attraction for locals and visitors to enjoy.

The exhibition will explore more than ten themes that represent the richness of Territory history including Larrakia Country, Territorians, a showcase of the Territory’s performing arts sectors, Tracks & Mapping and much more.

A Territory Story exhibition will be located on the entry level of the Northern Territory Library at Parliament House and is expected to open in mid-2018.

The Northern Territory Library will remain open to visitors during the works.
