Stallholders welcome for Telegraph Station Open Day & Markets

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Department of Tourism and Culture is gearing up for the 2018 Alice Springs Telegraph Station Open Day and Market, and is calling on local businesses, entertainers and community groups to help make this year’s event the biggest yet.

Held on May 20 from 9:30am to 1pm, the 2018 Open Day and Market has been moved back a month from previous years to take advantage of the cooler weather. Local organisations are urged to contact the park rangers at the Telegraph Station to secure their stall at the popular open day and market. There are no fees for stallholders to attend.

Department of Tourism and Culture Senior Park Ranger Shirley Butler said the open day and market was a family friendly community event that celebrates the heritage of Alice Springs through People, Places and Faces.

“Since it started in 2015, the open day and market has gone from strength to strength and we’re looking forward to building on this success for 2018.

“Last year we had over 40 individual stalls, and we’re inviting all local businesses, entertainers, artists, and community groups to host food, community, craft and homewares, health, demonstrations, entertainment and non-profit, as well as volunteers to help make the this year’s event even bigger and better than last year’s,” said Ms Butler.

The Alice Springs Telegraph Station Open Day and Market is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a taste of the rich history of Central Australia– and, it’s FREE.

Last year’s attendees walked among the heritage listed buildings while enjoying old fashioned crafts, including lacemaking and blacksmithing, as well as demonstrations from the Alice Springs Amateur Radio Club and entertainment from the Sing Australia Choir.

Those interested in holding a stall or volunteering at this year’s open day and market can contact 8952 1013 at asts.openday2018@nt.gov.au.
