The NT Government has committed to developing a Territory Wildlife Park (TWP) 10 year Master Plan, providing a road map for the future development of the Park.
Department of Tourism and Culture, Executive Director of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage Mark Ashley, has today announced local company KPMG will develop the plan.
“A TWP Master Plan will guide the transition from a traditional zoo to a multi-use community asset that provides world class visitor experiences and innovative commercial partnership opportunities,” Mr Ashley said.
"It will also lead to improved conservation education outcomes and help to build a community that understands the importance of biodiversity, conservation, and environmental management.”
“Opportunities exist for diversification to meet changing domestic and international markets, and while TWP currently provides outstanding and engaging wildlife encounters, opportunities to extend visitor length of stay and to fully realise the implications of future increased traffic flow to Litchfield National Park, need to be evaluated.
“Ultimately, the Master Plan will enable TWP to re-establish itself as a major tourism attraction in the Top End region providing unique visitor experiences and activities for locals and tourists beyond those of a traditional zoo-based enterprise.”
Consulting firm KPMG will work with targeted stakeholders to explore economic development models that improve the long term economic sustainability of the TWP.
KPMG will consult directly with key stakeholders for input on the return brief for the design and development of the TWP Master Plan.
