Australia’s leading Academy Award accredited and BAFTA-recognised Short Film Festival, Flickerfest, is heading back to the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 March.
“After the successful return of Flickerfest to the Araluen Arts Centre in 2017, we are thrilled to be welcoming them back and presenting another programme of quality Australian and International short films under the stars at Araluen’s outdoor cinema space,” Director of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr. Mark Crees said.
“Flickerfest is Australia’s largest national and international short film competition and celebrates the most entertaining and innovative short filmmaking from around the world.”
“We will presenting three different programmes of Australian, International and comedy shorts on the Circus Lawns behind the Araluen Arts Centre.”
The annual Flickerfest competition occurs each January in Bondi and screens films in both comedy, Australian and International categories and some of the films go on to be nominated for an Academy Award.
“Watu Wote (All of Us), a short film based on the true stories of the Al-Shabaab terrorist attacks, was awarded Best European Short Film during Flickerfest and has recently been nominated for the Oscar for Best Live Action Short,” Dr Crees said.
Watu Wote will screen during the international short programme, alongside The World in your Window, the Flickerfest winner for Best International Short Film.
The Australian short film programme will feature the winner of the best screenplay and best Australian short animation, After All, as well as the winner of best direction, Second Best.
On Hold, the winner of the Best Australian Short Film, will screen during the Short Comedy programme.
Flickerfest will show the Short Laughs Comedy programme on Friday 23 March, the Best International Shorts on Saturday 24 March and the Best of Australian Shorts on Sunday 25 March.
Gates will open at 7pm each night with films starting at 7.30pm, with a bar and food available to purchase on site.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own chair or something comfortable to sit on. And a reminder that dogs are not permitted.
Ticket prices for a single session are adults for $18.00 and concession for $15.00. Three night passes are adults $48.00 and concession for $39.00.
