Territory Families - Attempted escape by a young person attending court

At approximately 2.16pm today, a young person attempted escape from the Supreme Court.

The young person had been escorted from Don Dale Youth Detention Centre where they were on remand prior to their appearance at court.

After a decision was made to continue to remand the young person in custody, and the Judge had departed, the young person jumped out of the docks and ran off.

Security at the Court apprehended the young person, who did not resist.

The young person is back in custody at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre.
