Creating positive change begins with meaningful conversation. Consultation with the Humpty Doo community begins today and is about protecting their valued rural lifestyle while planning for population growth in the long term. A Discussion Paper for the Humpty Doo Rural Activity Centre has been prepared to assist this consultation.
“By identifying appropriate areas for growth within the Rural Activity Centre, we’re ensuring the efficient delivery of necessary infrastructure and community services while maintaining the amenity and lifestyle of the rural area,” said Dr David Ritchie, Chair of the Northern Territory Planning Commission.
Stage 1 of area planning for Humpty Doo will follow a similar path to recent consultation by the NT Planning Commission in Howard Springs and Coolalinga/Freds Pass, with the sharing of information and ideas about how the Rural Activity Centre could change into the future.
Feedback received during this stage will help the NT Planning Commission develop options for a draft area plan to take back to the community for comment later this year.
Dr Ritchie said the public is invited to attend pop-up stalls, information sessions and community workshops in the area over the coming weeks to specifically discuss the future of the Humpty Doo Rural Activity Centre. These information sessions and workshops take the discussion to the community.
Dr Ritchie said the Commission would also be engaging with a community advisory group for the Humpty Doo area planning process. The Advisory Group includes residents and Councillors from the Litchfield Council area, and is established by Litchfield Council.
“I encourage residents, landowners, businesses and other users of Humpty Doo to become involved and contribute positively to the area planning process,” he concluded.
A Discussion Paper, as well as dates and times for the pop up stalls, information sessions and workshops, are all available on the Commission’s website www.planningcommission.nt.gov.au.
Submissions can be made online or by mail from now until 23rd March 2018.
