Personal Hardship and Distress Payments continue to be
jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Northern Territory Government under the
Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
This has been provided to impacted residents through
immediate relief payments and re-establishment payments.
Up to $1,252 in immediate relief payments is available per
family. This payment is not means-tested, with 25% paid to residents’ bank
accounts directly, and 75% available as a store credit.
Residents living in the Nauiyu community boundary will
provided their store credit at the Nauiyu ALPA store. Those living outside the
community boundary will be provided their store credit through the Woolworths
or Coles vouchers available. Residents who have not yet applied for their
Personal Hardship and Distress Payments can do so by completing a form
available from the Nauiyu ALPA store or by calling the Territory Families
hotline, and selecting option 4 (1800 700 250).
Re-establishment payments are being provided to replace
essential household items ruined by floodwaters, with assessors continuing to
survey the damage done. This will cover impacted fridges, freezers, washing
machines and/or bedding, with replacement items available through an
arrangement established through the ALPA store.
Re-establishment payments will be means-tested, and is based
on what individual homes have lost, and whether or not they were covered by
insurance.
