Wet Season Treasures Tours at Northern Territory Library

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

When you pull on the white gloves and hold a rare collection item there is a special feeling knowing you are holding a piece of our history and that you have been able to interact with something not normally on show.

Back by popular demand the Northern Territory Library team have delved into their vault searching for treasures.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Northern Territory Library Director Patrick Gregory said the public are invited to delve into the Territory’s history with a wet season twist.

“The Wet Season Treasures Tours give our visitors the chance to experience some of the many treasures in the Northern Territory Library’s extensive collections of Territory history,” Mr Gregory said.

“Visitors can see a range of treasures including historical articles on Territory wet season footy, a copy of John Gould’s ‘The birds of Australia and the adjacent islands’, rare maps of Fort Dundas, the transcript of radio transmission from two hours after Cyclone Tracy and more.

“The team really enjoy presenting this tour, it is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the community, share information about our collections and for us to learn from our visitors.”

The Wet Season Treasure Tours are on Tuesday 13 February & Tuesday 27 February at 10.30am, with the final tour on Wednesday 14 March at 5.30pm.
