Up to 50 people affected by Banned Drinker Register computer error

Department of Attorney-General and Justice

The NT Department of Health will contact up to 50 people who have had duplicate bans recorded in the Banned Drinker Register (BDR) database.

Some three month bans were unknowingly duplicated from 19 January – 23 January 2018 due to an error in a recently updated version of the Apprehensions system that is associated with the Banned Drinker Register.

Twenty-four people have been identified as having these duplicate bans, however, work is underway to have these additional bans removed and records should be corrected by 9 February 2018.

A further 26 possible cases of duplicate bans will also be investigated and it is anticipated that these will be removed by 14 February 2018.

The Department of Health BDR Registrar will write to the people affected to inform them of the error and the expected resolution.

The software error has been resolved and there is no further risk to the integrity of the Banned Drinker Register database.

There is no detriment to the public or any person on the Banned Drinker Register because the original three month ban added in January has an expiry date in April and therefore is still current.

Anyone with concerns or questions can contact the BDR Registrar via banneddrinkerregister.doh@nt.gov.au for advice.
