Territorians are invited to provide comments on the NT EPA’s draft NT Noise Management Framework Guideline before the 1 March 2018 deadline.
The NT EPA is developing the guideline as part of a regulatory framework to address noise related issues and challenges in the Northern Territory.
The guideline aims to:
· Provide clarity around what agency regulates which type of noise in the NT
· Outline the overall NT requirements for noise issues in a comprehensive framework
· Set recommended limits around noise emissions, including decibel limits and hours of operation for specific activities
· Identify processes for assessing different types of noise and for the setting of noise limits of these
· Provide assistance to government agencies, councils and proponents on what and how noise matters need to be addressed for developments prior to development
· Outline a process by which a person can apply to the NT EPA to undertake an activity that can’t meet the limits specified in the guidelines (via submission of a noise management plan)
· Outline the pollution complaint handling process to the public and what NT EPA authorised officers will take into account when deciding whether a breach of the Waste Management and Pollution Control Act has occurred.
Stakeholder presentations are scheduled to be held at Arnhemica House in Parap at 10.30am on 20 and 21 February 2018, which will also be livestreamed via the Department of Environment and Natural Resources facebook page https://www.facebook.com/denrnt/
