Territory kids are being urged to stay out of pipes and drains this Wet Season and hit the wave pool instead as part of a competition by the NT Government and the Darwin Waterfront.
The Department of Tourism and Culture, Northern Territory Government and the Darwin Waterfront are giving you the chance to win a pass for you and three mates to the Darwin Waterfront Wave Pool as part of our Stay Out of Pipes and Drains community campaign.
There will be a total of 10 winners and this year each winner automatically goes in the draw to win one of three Darwin Waterfront Family Memberships.
The competition, as part of the campaign, aims to promote community awareness and help prevent drownings in storm water pipes and drains during the wet season.
Parents are urged to talk to their children about water safety, and ensure they cool off in our safe pools and water parks.
Floss Roberts, Executive Director of Royal Life Saving Society NT said although it had been a dry start to the Wet Season, water safety should always be front of mind.
“There is no room for complacency when it comes to water safety,” said Ms Roberts.
“It only takes a split second for pipes and drains to become raging torrents in a deluge so now is the time to be educating your children of these dangers as well as the safe and secure places they can go to cool off.
“The Stay Out of Pipes and Drains campaign has so far been a success with no drownings recorded since it began, however we still urge all families to be aware of the #staysafethisWet water safety message.”
To enter the competition, like the Sport and Recreation Facebook page and comment on the pinned competition post.
The competition closes on 30 January.
