Bush Christmas comes to the Red Centre!

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Get the kids out of the house and immerse them in nature to celebrate a true Bush Christmas at the Alice Springs Desert Park, with a jam packed program running from 16 to 24 December 2017.

Toddlers through to teenagers can explore a range of age-tailored exciting activities, ranging from making your own Twiggy Star decorations for your Christmas tree, crafting your own bush Christmas card or channelling your inner scientist with the ‘Under Investigation’ sessions.

Alice Springs Desert Park Director Paul Ah Chee ‘Ngala’ said the Bush Christmas was the perfect opportunity to enjoy the Desert Park during the summer holidays.

“Back by popular demand, the Desert Park’s Bush Christmas is a great way to entertain visiting friends, family and children in the lead up to Christmas,” said Mr Ah Chee.

The Bush Christmas program is scheduled for mornings to take advantage of the cooler parts of the day, with most activities taking place under shelters with fans, or indoors in air-conditioning.

“Let your children’s imagination and creativity run wild as we celebrate together the best of an Australian Bush Christmas.”

If the young ones aren’t spent from the program’s daily activities, they can collect a free Nature Scavenger Hunt and test their desert detective skills across the Park. Bring it back at the end of the day to receive a Desert Park gift for their efforts.

The ever-popular ‘Under Investigation’ will be held on Tuesday 19 and Sunday 23 December between 11am and 12pm with the Park’s Insect Extraordinaire!  Stick insects, Toad Hoppers and Pie-dish Beetle larvae will make an appearance where budding scientists can explore insects up close and learn about these diverse critters.

Admission fees to the Park do apply but activities are free once you enter the Desert Park. No bookings required.

The Desert Park is open 7.30am to 6pm daily and is only closed on Christmas Day (25 December).
